Description

The Divine Gift Hamper dares to recreate history from a distance.

At Designs by Maulshree, our vision is to emerge as the foremost choice for discerning buyers seeking thoughtfully customized ethnic handicrafts for any purpose, occasion, space, or event.

Our recent project experience with a former corporate client, who has since become a friend, truly brought this vision to life.

Lekh (name changed) – an educator, bilingual author, and cultural immersion workshop designer in New York (USA), deeply committed to promoting rich Indian heritage through storytelling and cultural experiences – reached out in October 2025 with a unique request. She wanted to organize her son’s sacred thread (Janeu) ceremony at their ancestral temple premises in Vadnagar, Gujarat, in the most authentic way possible in December 2025.

Due to tight work schedules and her son’s school, she could only arrive two days before the event. So, she began planning the mini-events from New York and collaborated with professionals and family members in India to bring her traditional ideas into a contemporary setting.

DBM was her first choice for creating The Divine Gift Hamper – a special shagun souvenir (Lahna) to be gifted to relatives and friends attending the ceremony.

As this was not just a family event but a traditional ceremony deeply rooted in the rich heritage of the Nagar Brahmin community, we aimed to recreate an authentic and meaningful experience inspired by age-old customs. Every detail was discussed thoroughly and executed with care, while staying true to traditional rituals.

The guest Lahnas (shagun souvenirs distributed after the ceremony) were designed to reflect the spiritual essence of the celebration – handcrafted, traditional, meaningful, and soulful.

From size, budget, feasibility, and number of items to placement, design, colors, artisan coordination, story cards, and delivery – every detail was carefully researched and finalized to create The Divine Gift Hamper, a truly memorable experience.

At DBM, we curated a bespoke hamper – a harmonious blend of five handcrafted products (excluding sweets and temple prasadi, while designing space for them), each carrying its own story, material, and legacy, shared through a story card included in the hamper.

The Contents of The Divine Gift Hamper (Lahna):

  • Silver Charan Paduka – Spirituality & Prosperity

  • Navdhatu Container – Good Luck & Traditional Craftsmanship

  • Decorative Cardboard Gift Box – Handcrafted & Eco-friendly

  • Hanuman Chalisa – Spirituality, Protection & Mental Strength

  • Jute Carry Bag – Eco-friendly, Ethnic & Durable

The Process Story:

The Navdhatu container, crafted from nine sacred metals, was made using an ancient no-welding technique preserved by traditional artisans for generations.

The gift box was entirely handcrafted using age-old hand-cutting and pasting techniques passed down through artisan families.

The jute carry bag was lovingly made by women artisans of Uttarakhand, supporting rural craftsmanship and livelihoods, and included a special pocket for the wooden Hanuman Chalisa, designed to give an ancient scripture feel.

The silver Padukas were designed by hallmarked jewelers in Uttarakhand.

The Making of The Divine Gift Hamper:

At the base of the Navdhatu container, we placed a rich velvet cloth upon which rested the silver Charan Paduka. To elevate the sensory experience, natural handmade itra (traditional perfume) from the Mewad region of Rajasthan was gently applied – an age-old royal tradition once practiced by maharajas to sanctify sacred offerings.

The story cards accompanying The Divine Gift Hamper were tied together with moli dhaga, a sacred red-yellow thread symbolizing protection, purity, and devotion.

The Final Execution:

Delivery was carefully scheduled to ensure the hampers reached Udaipur, Rajasthan, on time. They were then prepared with sweets and transported to the final venue in Vadnagar, Gujarat.

After the ceremony, when my friend returned to the US, I received her heartfelt message:

“Thank you for turning a small seed into a forest of memories, beautifully planted in the hearts and minds of my family and friends. God bless DBM!”

This project was not just about creating a gift-it was about honoring traditions, reviving forgotten practices, empowering artisans, and weaving divine emotions into every detail.

Projects like The Divine Gift Hamper reaffirm why we do what we do at Designs by Maulshree-
we create not just handcrafted products, but timeless stories rooted in India’s living heritage.
